Grant Thornton says in the last three financial years, it found "significant weaknesses" at Nottingham City Council within the three areas it analysed. A new report has now been issued in which the auditor says work is still needed to improve the council's financial sustainability and its workforce.
Overall, Grant Thornton's report says: "The council's financial situation is precarious, making it hard to take forward other initiatives." The auditor also raises concerns about the council's accounts still being years behind, with a full set having not been published for the last four years. Grant Thornton's report says: "The lack of draft and audited accounts undermined transparency and accountability throughout the period we are reporting on."
