They say music breaks down barriers and has the power to unite communities
Two women from Nottingham have spoken out about the importance of representation in their community. They are the only women to organise a free female-led music festival in Nottingham.
Their latest event was held at the Nottingham Playhouse. Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, Rastarella came to the UK in the late 80s. "Sometimes, you get fed up with not seeing yourself represented.” The main emphasis of this brand was to unify and celebrate music from all around the world. Other events have been held at Stonebridge City Farm in St Ann's, the Queens Walk Community Centre in The Meadows and the New Art Exchange in Hyson Green.
From organising face-to-face events to uniting people in a whole new way, Jude Winwood spoke about organising more events virtually. She said: “It wasn’t easy at first but we ran a festival from our kitchen, that was our HQ.
