So proud - give these lads a knighthood 👏

A Nottinghamshire man was among the coffin bearers at the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. Luke , from Selston, was one of the proud 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards carrying the monarch's coffin on Monday, September 19.

Lee Anderson, MP for Ashfield, praised Luke and Aaron , who was on the street with crowds. "Ashfield Lads. Luke and Aaron doing their duty and making their families and the whole of Ashfield feel incredibly proud. Serving Queen and country." he wrote on his Facebook page. It was a busy day for the Grenadier Guards, who were serving in Iraq just weeks ago. The team were responsible for carrying the coffin from Westminster Hall to a gun carriage, before taking it to its spot in Westminster Abbey.Soldiers were then tasked with moving the coffin to a hearse so it could be driven to Windsor. Eight guards helped carry the Queen towards St George's Chapel, navigating steep steps in the process.

Despite billions watching from all over the world, the guards who helped throughout the day, including Luke, managed to carry out their task without a slip-up. Do you know Luke or his family? If so, ask them to get in touch with us at [email protected]
