He made a dig about the singer
A Nottinghamshire MP has taken a dig at the pop star Sam Smith's preferred pronouns by tweeting an altered picture of a 'Welcome to Mansfield' sign. The picture tweeted by Mansfield's Conservative MP Ben Bradley sees the town renamed as 'Themsfield' with the caption 'progress'.
The tweet published on Sunday also features an image of Sam Smith and is a reference to the singer's pronouns of they/them. Sam Smith first announced their preferred pronouns in 2019 after describing a "lifetime of being at war with my gender". The artist wrote: "I'm so excited and privileged to be surrounded by people that support me in this decision but I've been very nervous about announcing this because I care too much about what people think... I understand there will be many mistakes and mis gendering but all I ask is you please please try. I hope you can see me like I see myself now.
The MP wrote: "Hopefully the unsafe and irresponsible Scottish Gender Reform Bill goes with her. You can't lead a country if you can't even say what a woman is." Sam Smith recently corrected One Show presenter Alex Jones after she misgendered the singer when discussing dreams of taking up fishing. Sam Smith said: "I do love fishing. I'd love to be a fisherthem."
