NRL considering changes to State of Origin format | Andrew Webster
The NRL thinks it might be and is considering changes to the interstate series from next season when the new broadcast cycle with Channel Nine begins.— which culminated with Origin II on a Sunday night — will be abandoned with all three Origins to be played on Wednesday evenings.
The NRL will consult clubs and Nine — publisher of this masthead — in coming months about any variations to the schedule.Playing the series over a four-week period, or even a fortnight, means it will have less impact on the NRL, although the standard has been quite good this season in comparison to previous years.
There was little chance of that crankiness revealing itself this year between NSW coach Brad Fittler and Maroons counterpart Billy Slater, both of whom in their day jobs for Nine sit on the sameCameron Munster will take no part in the Origin decider. The storylines around Wednesday night’s decider at Suncorp Stadium are also different because these are, in case you haven’t noticed, different times.
