‘Shut them down’: Broncos urged to mirror Maroons’ blueprint in stopping Penrith stars
The Daily Telegraph’s Dave Riccio also had doubts whether it could work, noting that the Storm had some Queensland personnel but were still blown off the park.
“I would say that your point is a valid one in the sense of asking the question, but for the fact the Melbourne Storm have Harry Grant and Cam Munster, who are also heavily involved in the Queensland Origin side,” Riccio said.Broncos great Gorden Tallis says his former club will at least “try” and adopt some of the same strategies that have worked for the Maroons.
“It will be really hard to do. They have so much attack the Panthers, they can go to Cleary, Luai, Yeo,” Tallis said.Sunday’s grand final is one of the more anticipated deciders in recent memory, with both teams boasting strike players all over the park.Crawley said that because of this, perhaps Kevin Walters’ men are the most likely of any NRL team to mirror what the Maroons were able to do in thwarting some of the Penrith stars over the past two seasons.
“It is the one thing the Broncos do have in their favour though because from 1-17, they are an incredible football side. On talent and belief, and especially their key players,” Crawley said.SPORTS
