BREAKING: NRL grand final to stay in Sydney - after V'Landys jokes it will be Melbourne
The NRL grand final will remain in Sydney after fraught negotiations between the NSW government and Australian Rugby League Commission kept the match at Accor Stadium.
The pair had a number of tense conversations in recent weeks after the premier informed the NRL the state government would no longer be providing the $800 million previously promised to the league to build suburban stadiums. “Dom and I have a good pleasant relationship. He knows and I know at times we aren’t going to agree. It’s a bit like the road-runner and the coyote, at the end of it all we have a beer together and we are mates.”
“This is solely a one-year deal for the grand final and the rental terms for the grand final,” V’landys said. The decision comes after a tense meeting between V’landys and his fellow ARLC directors on Wednesday night, which followed negotiations with Sports Minister Alister Henskens over broken promises for Sydney’s stadia upgrade.
