NRL referees received plenty of praise following the season opener where the Melbourne Storm defeated the Brisbane Broncos.
There was a total of just nine penalties during the Storm's 22-12 victory, and The Bunker reviews were noticeably brief. "I thought it made for a better game of football," Storm captain Cameron Smith told Nine's commentary team in the"It allowed the smaller men, the halves, a little bit more space with the bigger men getting tired. Rather than just seeing the big boys just bash and smash up the middle and then kicking long, that's a little bit boring.
"I thought the referees did a really good job. I hope we see that again tomorrow night, throughout the weekend and for the rest of the season."Cameron Munster, man of the match at AAMI Park, echoed Smith's comments about the referees.
