New South Wales and Victoria have announced changes to quarantine rules for close contacts, while the southern state has also removed the requirement for patrons to provide proof of vaccination before entering venues.
The changes were announced on Wednesday as COVID-19 restrictions were further back further in the two states.
"Close contacts will no longer have to quarantine - provided they wear a mask indoors and avoid sensitive settings," Victoria's Health Minister Martin Foley said in a statement. "They will also need to undertake at least five negative rapid tests over the seven days that would previously have been the self-quarantine period." Along with changes to close contacts, restrictions around proof of vaccination and masks will also be relaxed.
"Patrons won't be required to have two doses or show their vaccination status before entering any venue," Victoria's Health Minister Martin Foley said. "Masks will no longer be required in primary schools, early childhood, hospitality and retail settings, or at events of any size." Close contacts do not have to isolate if they have no symptoms but they must comply with guidelines such as not visiting aged care, hospitals, disability facilities and correctional facilities unless a special exemption is granted. : Victoriaâs COVID restrictions easing from midnight Friday.
