Thousands of New South Wales and Victorian residents are relocating to South East Queensland. Between 2016 and 2021, the Gold Coast saw an influx of 50,000 newcomers. Of these, 34,000 were from New South Wales, with over half coming from Greater Sydney and 16,000 from Victoria. These relocators account for seven per cent of the Gold Coast population. The warm climate and affordable housing are believed to be the main attractors. The Gold Coast Council is approving more housing developments in response to the population surge.
