Breaking: NSW Arts Minister Don Harwin has moved to spare Premier Gladys Berejiklian from political pain and has quit cabinet after being caught at his holiday home during the coronavirus crisis | AlexSmithSMH LisaVisentin
One senior minister said: "The Premier is very unhappy about it all because it was an unnecessary distraction. Another minister said it was a "very unfair" outcome. "There better be 24 halos in cabinet otherwise," the minister said.
It is unlikely Ms Berejilian will do a full reshuffle and could promote Oatley MP Mark Coure or Ku-ring-gai MP Alister Henskens to cabinet. "I took advice from my department officials about the Public Health Order to ensure I adhered to the guidelines during this period," said Mr Harwin, whose ministerial responsibilities include the arts, Aboriginal affairs as well as being Special Minister of State."I regret and apologise to everybody that someone from my team undertook this activity and the perception of it is not good," Ms Berejiklian said on Thursday.
NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller warned Mr Harwin faced a $1000 fine if he did not have a "reasonable excuse" for travelling and late on Friday police said Mr Harwin was sent a fine.
