From April 1 pharmacists with private rooms will be able to diagnose conditions like urinary tract infections and prescribed antibiotics, and from July they'll be able to give repeats of the contraceptive pill.Along with some prescription medication, NSW pharmacists will soon be able to provide work absentee certificates for free.
9News can reveal they will also be able to offer free sick notes at the same time as part of the trial, and the state government will reimburse chemists for the cost of a consult."For uncomplicated urinary tract infections they go through a set of questions for a diagnosis," David Heffernan from the Pharmacy Guild said.Part of the pitch is that chemists are often open longer hours and pharmacists argue they're on hand when GPs can't be.
