Disgruntled software developers who claim not to have been paid are being blamed for releasing details of more than 1 million pub and club patrons in NSW.

Already a subscriber?Police arrested a 46-year-old man over threats to share personal details of more than 1 million patrons of pubs and clubs in NSW, stolen as part of a data breach of a third-party IT provider.

The website claimed to have information on more than 1 million people, captured during the sign-in process at 17 venues in NSW.Superintendent Taylor said police were working with affected clubs to stifle the release of the personal information. The website claimed Outabox, which provides IT services to gaming venues, clubs and casinos, had contracted a team of developers from the Philippines to build a suite of software systems for gaming venues and to maintain them and back up the data on external clouds. However, Outabox suddenly cut the developers off, it said.“The developers were directed to back up all the data off-site, possibly against the knowledge of the operating venue,” a posting on the site said.

“We have persons of interest in our inquiries, we are following up with those persons of interest. We hope that those persons of interest will help us identify who the perpetrators are that have committed this act.”“ClubsNSW is deeply concerned about the security of the data that is the subject of the breach.
