The cost of tearing up Transurban’s existing toll road contracts in NSW could be released publicly by the end of the year as the newly elected Labor government charges ahead with a revamp of the state’s tolling systems.
Mr Fels will oversee the review and lead any negotiations with Transurban, which operates all of Sydney’s toll roads except the Harbour Bridge and Tunnel, if the government decides to change any of the company’s existing toll road contracts, some of which last until 2060. “We’ve called on the expertise of Allan Fels to lead the discussions with Transurban,” Mr Graham said.“It’s such an important discussion for Sydney, and we want a productive discussion, but it will be a negotiation.”would stick to its pre-election commitment to release key details of Transurban’s toll road contracts.
Road Freight NSW, which represents trucking companies, has called on the new government to consider off-peak toll fares; a per-kilometre distance-based tolling system; and lower tolls for small trucks and vehicles with low-carbon emissions.
