RFS Commissioner Shane Fiztsimmons says authorities are having to balance deploying firefighters to battle existing blazes and holding them in reserve to tackle new fires that flare up in today's extreme conditions.
He praises crews that have come from other states and overseas, particularly Queensland, where eased conditions compared to a few months ago have freed up some resources. He says that while there are focus areas that the RFS has already warned about, bad fire conditions means that people need to be vigilant for unexpected fires starting elsewhere.
