NSW Deputy Liberal leader Stuart Ayres has defended his government’s backflip on indoor mask mandates given the evolving COVID situation calls for a “constant evaluation” of restrictions.
It comes as New South Wales officials reinstated restrictions a day before Christmas in a bid to slow the spread of Omicron. The Premier is asking residents who don’t have symptoms to avoid getting PCR tested to ease strain on the system. “I think we’re taking cautious, measured decisions – we’ve always said that we would set our conditions and settings based on the environment that we’re operating in,” Mr Ayres told Sky News Australia.
“Omicron is different to what we’ve seen over the last two years and it’s appropriate that we’re taking a cautious approach at this stage with the reintroduction of mask wearing for indoor settings.”
