The NSW government is expected to announce its decision into whether it will keep Australia’s biggest coal-fired power station running for an extra two years to reduce the risk of blackouts. Eraring Power Station currently provides 20 per cent of New South Wales’ total electricity supply and was originally slated to close in 2032, but that was brought forward last year to 2025. A state commission report has recommended the New South Wales government enter a deal with Eraring operator Origin to extend the power station’s life beyond 2025.
