The NSW government is in turmoil, and rebelling Nationals ministers have hours left to decide how to meet an ultimatum from the Premier.

Deputy Premier John Barilaro and the other Nationals in Ms Berejiklian’s Cabinet have until 9am on Friday morning to indicate whether they will remain in their roles or surrender them amid a dispute over koala policy.

“It is long established convention that members of Cabinet must support government legislation. It is not possible to be the deputy premier or a Minister of the Crown and sit on the crossbench. Her office released the scathing media statement described above before they had even made it back to Mr Barilaro’s office.on Thursday evening, where he was interviewed by former 2GB radio host Alan Jones.

“Look, it was an opportunity where we thought we could negotiate an outcome. And it wasn’t an option, it was a threat, that we have until 9am tomorrow to resign as ministers. If not, the threat that she’ll go to Government House, sack us and install a new ministry.” “Do I confidently believe a Liberal-only Cabinet is going to deliver? So maybe we’ve got to find a compromise where ministers will remain in the ministry, we’ll abide by the Cabinet solidarity and its rules.“This won’t be about backing down. I can hit a pause button for a second, we’ll work it out, but at some point in the next two or three weeks, we are going to have to confront the issue.
