The NSW government has promised a $27 billion spending spree over the next five years, with significant reforms to childcare and early childhood education as well as new $150 vouchers to families for all school-aged children.
NSW Treasurer Matt Kean outlines his budget to reporters before his budget speech in NSW Parliament on Tuesday.While many of the budget measures were revealed prior to Tuesday, a surprise inclusion was $193 million on a new voucher program giving $150 to each school-aged child to spend on uniforms, shoes, textbooks or stationery.The much-touted focus on women will see $5.
Kean said the stamp duty changes were about removing a barrier to home ownership but acknowledged the reform could not be more expansive without significant financial support from the federal government. “We are testing the waters in tax reform,” he said.Kean said the new vouchers for back-to-school purchases were designed to further support families as cost-of-living rises, including spiking interest rates.
