Another Black Lives Matter protest is planned to take place this weekend in Sydney, but Gladys Berejiklian has vowed to stop it.
“We don’t want anything jeopardising what we’ve managed to achieve in New South Wales and I can’t be clearer than that,” Ms Berejiklian told reporters today when asked about the protest.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian says the Government won’t allow protesters to disregard health orders. Picture: AAP Image/Dean Lewins“All levels of government are using COVID-19 as an excuse to try and shut down protests. The hypocrisy is blatant – while people pack into shopping centres, gyms and public transport as the economy opens up they say we can’t gather in public.”
At the June rally in Sydney, Ms Berejiklian’s government gave the green light for protests to go ahead believing it would be a small gathering, but when thousands flagged their interest in attending the rally at Sydney’s Town Hall, the Government was forced to backflip.
