The need to commemorate from a distance has drawn Sydneysiders together on this Anzac Day from the inner city to the distant suburbs.

On Saturday morning there was a quiet official ceremony at the Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park where the state's dignitaries paused in silence.

New South Wales Governor Margaret Beazley gave her Anzac Day address at the special commemorative service where she likened the coronavirus pandemic to a war. She then laid a single flower at the flame of remembrance on behalf of everyone in New South Wales. Image: News Corp Australia
