NSW Health recommends masks on public transport as COVID infections rise | Kaubo

Last week, NSW COVID infections rose 52.8 per cent to 22,672.New Omicron sub-variants are on the rise, but BA.5 is still the dominant variant within the community.

The seven-day rolling average of daily hospital admissions with COVID-19 increased to 63 admissions by the end of the week compared to 55 admissions the previous week, and emergency department presentations for COVID-19 requiring an admission increases to 248 from 169 respectively.Last week, 440 people with COVID-19 were admitted to hospital, with 40 admitted to intensive care units.

The department also advised people travelling to the northern hemisphere to make sure they were up-to-date with their COVID and influenza vaccinations. PCR testing numbers have almost halved from levels at the beginning of the Omicron wave at the end of June and beginning of August, and it is no longer mandatory to report positive rapid antigen test results since the order was scrapped on October 14.The changes mean that official case notification numbers “no longer reflect the level of community transmission in the same ways as during the [winter Omicron] wave,” the report said.
