The NSW Liberals have preselected corporate lawyer James Wallace to contest the seat of Hornsby after it was vacated by former treasurer Matt Kean .Mr Wallace, who won more than 120 of nearly 200 votes cast, said he was passionate about serving his community.
The high-profile moderate is leaving the safe Liberal electorate he has held for 13 years for a job advising the federal Labor government on climate change policy.Mr Wallace, whom Mr Kean called a "once-in-a-generation political talent" in his valedictory speech in June, is understood to have been the incumbent's preferred successor.
Former Hornsby deputy mayor Michael Hutchence came a distant second, despite being endorsed by Mr Abbott.
