A 25 -year-old man has died after being bucked from a bull and crushed by its hind legs while competing in a New Year’s Eve rodeo in front of hundreds of spectators in Queensland.
The 25-year-old was riding in the rodeo's entry-level category at about 8:15pm on Saturday at the Warwick Showgrounds when tragedy struck.
National Rodeo Association spokesperson Jason Hall said he was about half-way through the ride when he fell. "He was bucked off his bull about halfway through the ride and the bull's back feet came in contact with the competitor," Mr Hall said, the Courier Mail reports. Picture: Getty Images.Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics treated the young rider at the scene for serious chest injuries before he was rushed to Warwick Hospital in a critical condition where he later died.
Mr Hall confirmed that the rider was wearing a protective vest and helmet, but said it is a dangerous sport.“It was an unfortunate accident. Bull riding is a dangerous sport and everyone competing knows this is always a possibility.”
