New South Wales drivers are being warned ahead of the Queen’s National Day of Mourning after a double demerit period was announced. 7NEWS
announced a double demerit period will be in place across the state from midnight on Wednesday September 21 to 11.59pm on Sunday, September 25.
“Why would they be slapping double demerits on a day which is dedicated to respecting Queen Elizabeth II?” he said. Motorists who speed between 10km and 20km over the speed limit could lose six points, while the same offence in a school zone results in the loss of eight points.The same offence in a school zone would cost $2704 and 14 demerit points, resulting in an instant loss of licence.
