NSW MP Gareth Ward to face trial on sexual and indecent assault charges | _SarahMcPhee

NSW state MP Gareth Ward has been committed to stand trial on historical sexual and indecent assault allegations.

The Kiama MP, who remains suspended from parliament, has pleaded not guilty to one count of sexual intercourse without consent, three counts of indecent assault and one count of common assault.In Nowra Local Court on Friday, magistrate Lisa Viney committed Ward for trial in the District Court. The 41-year-old remains on bail and his case is due before Sydney’s Downing Centre District Court on September 14.

Police will allege in court that Ward indecently assaulted a 17-year-old boy at Meroo Meadow, in Shoalhaven, in February 2013, and sexually abused a 27-year-old man in Sydney in September 2015.The government , with the support of the opposition, two days after he was charged. He had moved to the crossbench in 2021 amid reports of a criminal investigation.
