Port Macquarie is now represented by a Liberal MP after Leslie Williams blindsides her Nationals colleagues and quits over the party's handling of the koala policy stoush.
Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams has formally become a member of the Liberal Party after resigning from the NSW Nationals, claiming it wasn't "the party I joined".Leslie Williams said the behaviour of party members last week was behind her decision to walkThe Nationals have lost four seats since 2016where he threatened to move the party to the crossbench if their demands weren't met.Ms Williams said this cemented her "tough decision" to resign from the party.
"I tried to ring her straight away to have a conversation with her to see if there was a pathway that we could actually work on to try and see what she was comfortable with," he said.The acting leader described the decision as disappointing and believed Ms Williams's constituents felt the same because they voted for a Nationals MP.
Ms Williams's switch to Liberals yet again drains the numbers of National MPs which has been depleted over the past five years.
