NSW Now: Chilly nights ahead, eggs recalled and reward-free schools
Courageous acts such as running to pull people from burning cars at petrol stations and rescuing swimmers caught in rips have earned 16 NSW residents the nation's highest awards for bravery outside of wartime.
The car caught fire but bystanders Ivan Smith and Hidayat Hidayat dragged the unconscious driver to safety, while Nicholas Daniell carried away the elderly female passenger. He also searched for the main switchboard to turn of the electricity to the block but sadly suffered a seizure and cardiac arrest and died.
