New South Wales paramedics are fighting the Berejiklian government's plan to freeze wage increases for public servants for the next 12 months by refusing billing information from patients. The Australian Paramedics Association called for the action in a move to hit the pockets of the state government without compromising their care for patients. The action could cost the state between $400 and $900 per ambulance trip.
The NSW government revised the plan, making a $1,000 peace offering to public service workers, but it was swiftly shot down by Labor and will be tabled. Premier Gladys Berejiklian said if the freeze was not implemented, there would likely be job losses in the public sector. The government projected it would save $3 billion as a result of the freeze which would be used in crucial, job-creating infrastructure projects.
