New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian has unveiled an additional $100 million to support frontline workers and $35 million to go towards vital research. New South Wales will offer free accommodation and parking for health workers “so they don’t have to worry about taking the disease home and unintentionally passing it on to their loved ones”.
Premier Berejiklian said the state committed $35 million toward vital research because “we want our best and brightest here in NSW and Australia working to find a vaccine as soon as possible, because the reality is, until we find a vaccine, we all have to live with this virus”. “We have to be honest with ourselves, until a vaccine is found, there is no simple way to deal with this issue… social distancing is the new normal,” she said on Tuesday.
