Stacey and Gareth Train, top, and Nathaniel Train, killed two police officers and one civilian at 251 Wains Road, Wieambilla.Stacey and Gareth Train, top, and Nathaniel Train, killed two police officers and one civilian at 251 Wains Road, Wieambilla.because the New South Wales officer who asked them to attend the remote rural property didn’t read the emails until it was too late, an inquest has heard.
The inquest heard that at 13.31pm Queensland time on 12 December 2022, Montgomery emailed a Queensland officer, Stephanie Abbott, to ask her to send police to 251 Wains Road, Wieambilla, where Gareth and Stacey Train were known to live.Four officers from Tara and Chinchilla police stations were sent. Constables Matthew Arnold and Rachel McCrow were killed about 4.37pm on 12 December 2022, two minutes after they entered the property.
Montgomery told the court he had not read attachments to an email he was forwarded by a superior, and had not taken note of a part of the body of the email which said Train’s words were “next level fucked up”.“Did you continue to read beyond narrative one to determine whether you need to cut and paste the further narrative into this email to Constable Abbott?” counsel assisting Ruth O’Gorman asked.
“My request was for the phone numbers and that’s all I zeroed in on when i opened that email,” he said.
