NSW Police Minister David Elliott has urged residents to comply with the state’s public health orders, saying he does not want Australia to become a “nation of dobbers”.
In the last 24 hour, NSW Police issued 284 infringement notices across the state, a third of which were dished out to residents who failed to wear a face mask.
Instead of viewing the measures as “punitive”, Mr Elliott said the health orders were imposed to ensure the health and safety of locals. “These regulations, these health orders, are not health orders that have been implemented that are some sort of punitive measure by the government,” he said. “It saddens us, as a government, to have to fine individuals who are just being asked to comply with laws that will make their lives safer and healthier.
