Following his conviction for manslaughter after tasering a 95-year-old woman, Clare Nowland, who later died from her injuries, the NSW police officer has been suspended from the force without pay. The officer, Kate Geraghty White, was suspended from duty with pay for 18 months and was found guilty after an eight-day trial in Sydney.

In the hours after the verdict, NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb said White’s employment status was under review.In a statement on Thursday morning, NSW Police said: “Following the verdict in the Supreme Court, a 34-year-old officer attached to Monaro Police District was notified on Wednesday he has been suspended from the NSW Police Force without pay.
Justice Ian Harrison adjourned the decision around White’s detention until Thursday, pending further evidence about custodial conditions.Under NSW bail laws, an offender found guilty of an offence who will be sentenced to full-time imprisonment must have their bail revoked ahead of sentencing unless they can establish special or exceptional circumstances to remain at liberty.
