NSW Police are under fire for the 'highly problematic' decision to replace their current tasers, which have integrated cameras, with newer tasers without cameras. The revelation comes less than a week after the death of 95-year-old Clare Nowland.

In an exclusive for Sky News Australia, Sharri Markson revealed NSW police are replacing their current tasers, which have integrated cameras, with new tasers that do not have cameras.

The news comes just 12 days after NSW Police tasered Clare Nowland at the Yallambee Lodge aged care home in Cooma. Markson explained that rather than cameras being automatically activated when a taser is used, police would need to turn on their body worn video units in order to record footage. “Because the X26P will not be available, NSWPF recently procured the Taser 7, which is in the process of being rolled out to operational police across the state,” they said.A NSW Police spokesperson acknowledged that the Taser 7 does not have an integrated camera, but said police were currently working with companies to try to make the body worn video turn on automatically when the taser is used.

The veteran journalist said that police do not always turn on their body worn cameras, “for a variety of reasons".
