Testing centres across the state have reached breaking point as residents and interstate travellers scramble to get a swab ahead of the Christmas and New Years period.

There were 151,443 tests conducted in the 24 hours to 8pm last night as residents scramble to get tested ahead of the Christmas break.

NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard said on Monday the state's COVID-19 testing centres are under"massive pressure" as travellers rush to get tested ahead of their plans to travel interstate.
