NSW Transport Minister Jo Haylen has resigned following scrutiny over her use of taxpayer-funded drivers for personal trips. Haylen admitted to a second Hunter Valley visit, where she and her husband were driven, but insisted it was different from a trip to a winery on Australia Day . She acknowledged her use of the personal driver was an error in judgment and that her mistakes were causing damage to the government.
Earlier this week, it was revealed Haylen had also used government drivers to transport her and her children between her Lake Macquarie holiday house and Sydney for Saturday sports. The minister stated she dropped off the children on her way to work, according to the premier. Haylen's children also accompanied her in a ministerial car to a property west of the Blue Mountains for lunch, a visit she claimed was 'work-related'. Despite Premier Chris Minns earlier stating he would not sack Haylen, she tendered her resignation on Tuesday, expressing remorse for letting the public down. Haylen stated that her mistakes had caused damage to the government and that she accepted the high expectations placed upon ministers. She emphasized her dedication to her role and the challenges of balancing personal and professional responsibilities. Haylen thanked her staff, department, and family for their support, expressing her intention to spend more time with them. She also highlighted her achievements in the transport sector, citing increased patronage and the importance of public transport as a social equaliser
