In changes flagged by the AEC after last year's federal election and based on population data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Victoria will get an extra representative in the House of Representatives.

The Northern Territory and Western Australia will each lose a seat in the House of Representatives, while Victoria is set to gain one after a reshuffle by the Australian Electoral Commission .

It means the NT will have just one Federal Member of Parliament in the House, WA will now have 15 seats and Victoria will increase to 39 seats. The commission makes its judgments on population data provided by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. The changes were flagged by the AEC after last year's federal election but it said at the time no other redistributions were expected during the current sitting term.
