As the NT government prepares to introduce tough new public drinking measures, an independent politician is warning Aboriginal people sleeping rough to consider leaving town centres.
An Arnhem Land politician has warned that new public drinking measures could result in more Aboriginal people sleeping rough facing fines or jail time.The NT's new Country Liberal Party government will continue with its anti-crime legislative agenda when parliament sits again from Tuesday.
"I'm warning them, I'm telling them, that this law is a bad law … this is going to result in more Aboriginal people going to prison.""I've said it before and I'll say it again — we are concerned that the are potentially using the criminal justice system as a way of racial control," he said.Deputy Chief Minister Gerard Maley said people were entitled to be wherever they wanted.
