Nicole Manison will be the acting Chief Minister of the Northern Territory until a new leader is chosen amid the shock resignation of Michael Gunner.

“Our caucus will meet on Friday morning to determine a new leader. If there is consensus in the room, and I hope there will be, we can have a new chief on Friday,” outgoing Northern Territory Chief Minister Michael Gunner said during a media conference on Tuesday.

“If there is a ballot, then that’s fine too. That’ll take a month or so and, of course, Nicole will continue acting chief for as long as needed. “When I return from leave, I will continue to serve as the member for Fannie Bay and a loyal member of the government on the backbench.”
