NT records 19 new COVID-19 cases, including three linked to local cluster
Ms Fyles said she understood the increasing case numbers "can appear to be frightening" but that the NT was prepared."We have got strong rates of vaccination across the Northern Territory and we have other public health measures which we can call on."But Chief Health Officer Hugh Heggie warned Territorians that it was only a matter of time before public health measures such as mask-wearing in taxis and on public transport were introduced.
He said the NT government would continue to stick to its PCR testing requirement for interstate travellers, despite some other states including Queensland dropping the requirement to alleviate extreme pressure on testing clinics."We have got much lower rates of vaccination in the community. He said the number of people seeking PCR tests to come to the NT was having a "minuscule" impact on interstate testing clinics compared with other jurisdictions.
