A man has died after he was struck by two vehicles on the Stuart Highway about 20 kilometres south of Darwin on Friday night, according to Northern Territory Police.The man's death was the sixth recorded pedestrian death in the Northern Territory this yearIn a statement, NT Police said the male pedestrian was struck by a vehicle travelling outbound between Temple Terrace and Lambrick Avenue in the Palmerston suburb of Johnston shortly after 11pm.
Police said the pedestrian then returned to the road, where he was struck by a second vehicle and suffered fatal injuries.He returned a positive drug test and was arrested by police to give a blood sample at the hospital, police said in a statement.Unlike the rest of the country, pedestrian deaths in the NT are going up. And it's Aboriginal people who are making up the increase.
"The pedestrian is an adult male and described as being of Aboriginal appearance and wearing dark-coloured clothing."Police have appealed to witnesses who saw the man on or near the road around 11pm on Friday.
