La caída de un globo aerostático en que murieron todos sus ocupantes en 2021 en Nuevo México se debió a un error del piloto, quien tenía cocaína y marihuana en el organismo, determinaron los investigadores.
La Junta Nacional de Seguridad en el Transporte concluyó en su informe definitivo difundido esta semana que el piloto Nicholas Meleski no guardó la distancia suficiente entre cables de electricidad en su intento de aterrizaje. Tras golpear contra los cables, la canastilla del globo cayó en una transitada intersección. Según el informe, los investigadores no encontraron pruebas de algún problema o falla mecánica.
“Nos es imposible expresar la profundidad de nuestro pesar y tristeza por el dolor que este accidente ha causado”, según el comunicado. Testigos dijeron a los investigadores que la parte superior del globo se desprendió de la canastilla tras golpear contra los cables de luz y se fue flotando. Fue hallado en dirección sur respecto del lugar donde cayó la canastilla.
