Around 1.7 million homeowners are now 'at risk' of mortgage stress, a fall of 2 percent since the Stage 3 tax cuts were introduced in the new financial year.

Around 28.3 per cent of Australians with a home loan are now "at risk" of mortgage stress, a fall of 2 per cent since the Stage 3 tax cuts were introduced in the new financial year, new research has found.

Roy Morgan considers mortgage holders to be "at risk" if their mortgage repayments are greater than a certain percentage of their household income – depending on income and spending. "The figures for September 2024 represent an increase of 917,000 considered 'At Risk' since the RBA began raising interest rates in May 2022," Levine said.
