Nurses will announce further strikes on Friday involving more hospital staff as they escalate their battle with the Government over NHS pay.
The RCN in Scotland will also send ballot papers in January over potential strike action after its members overwhelmingly rejected an improved pay offer of 7.5 per cent on average from the Scottish Government. The lowest paid would have received an 11.3 per cent rise. Speaking during First Minister’s Questions on Thursday, Nicola Sturgeon said Scottish Health Secretary Humza Yousaf will meet unions on Friday in an effort to avert strikes. However, she echoed comments made previously by Mr Yousaf that the latest deal was “the best and final offer”.
. These figures suggest there is absolutely no slack in the system, which is dangerously close to overheating completely.
