BREAKING: A border worker at Auckland Airport in NewZealand has tested positive for COVID-19, a day after the travel bubble with Australia opened.
New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has looked to ease concerns about what would trigger a closure of the trans-tasman bubble, saying the government will be "consistent" in treating any COVID-19 outbreaks., Ms Ardern urged people to look at travelling to New Zealand the same way they do when travelling to a different state.
"We will treat any cases in a very similar way as you see the different states do. If there's a hotspot and it is for instance, a case of unknown origin and that state goes into a short lockdown, we may pause travel for a time. "But if for instance, it is a known situation that's connected to a border worker for instance, then we wouldn't anticipate changing up travel arrangements."
Ms Ardern said outbreaks would be treated in a similar way to how Australian states and territories react to them now. "We'll be predictable, so for anyone thinking about travel, think of us as like any other state in Australia – except better," she said.
