New Zealand authorities have confirmed six bodies have been successfully recovered from White Island and have been taken to a waiting navy ship via helicopter.
The team is still searching for the two remaining bodies and is expected to take several more hours.
Despite highly volatile conditions and the risk of another volcanic eruption, they entered the area early Friday morning. New Zealand's Deputy Police Commissioner Mike Clements confirmed the task is going ahead as anticipated but remains delicate. Image: AP
