Oakland City Councilmember Dan Kalb has announced that he is running for state Senate District 7, a seat currently occupied by Nancy Skinner.
Kalb believes he has the background and knowledge to carry on Skinner's work, especially her work on the environment.
Kalb studied natural resource conservation in college. Following college, he worked at several environmental organizations such as the League of Conservation Voters, the Sierra Club and the Union of Concerned Scientists where he wrote legislation. Besides the environment, Kalb cited four challenges among others he wants to address if he is elected to the Senate. These challenges are health care, public education, criminal justice reform and housing, he said in an interview by phone recently.
