Michael Britton, 31, was sentenced to 40 years to life in prison for murdering Omar Emad Abdallah in 2017.
OAKLAND — A Bay Area man was sentenced last month to 40 years to life in prison for murdering a man during an argument over a dice game, court records show.
Michael Britton, 31, was sentenced Sept. 30 by Judge Scott Patton, who also imposed a nine-year concurrent prison term for a gun conviction. Britton was convicted last May of murdering Omar Emad Abdallah. Abdallah was shot and killed at around 3 p.m. on Oct. 9, 2017, at an autobody shop on the 9700 block of C Street in Oakland. Prosecutors say the two started arguing when Britton drew a gun, leading to a brief scuffle.
Britton then shot Abdallah two times and fired a third after Abdallah had fallen to the ground. Abdallah initially survived the shooting but died at a hospital hours later. Britton was arrested nine days after the shooting in Reno. The terms of Britton’s sentence mean that he won’t be eligible for parole until after serving 40 years in prison. He has been in Santa Rita Jail since his arrest, and remains there pending transfer to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, jail records show.
