Chief LeRonne Armstrong was placed on leave this week over an officer misconduct scandal. But nothing further will happen, the mayor said, until the city investigates further.
OAKLAND — In a city that has seen a number of ousted police leaders, newly-inauguarated Mayor Sheng Thao’s choice tofor his apparent role in an officer-misconduct scandal seemed out of the ordinary.
“This is an opportunity to more fully review the findings of the reports and let our oversight bodies act and do the jobs that they’re in place to do,” Thao continued. But in an ensuing internal-affairs investigation, Chung was tipped off to the video footage by a higher-ranking lieutenant who advised him to file a report of the collision to San Francisco police.
