Vital meetings within the Democratic Party are set to decide whether Joe Biden is the best candidate for the 2024 US election. The fate of US President Joe Biden 's political future lies in the hands of his own party, with several Democrats voicing their concerns over his leadership in a pair of key meetings.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries are believed to be two of the main figures behind a decision on the 81-year-old, a top Democrat told CNN. In the morning House meeting, about 30 lawmakers took the opportunity to speak as Jeffries listened to concerns, following the presidential debate two weeks ago where Biden's weary performance sparked concerns over his health.
Another Democrat, Greg Landman said there was"a ton of concern" over Biden and that he had"a lot of work left to do". With under 120 days left until the election on November 5, Democrats also have to consider whether they believe the party can win the election with such a late change to the ballot. He also challenged his own party members, declaring himself"the best person" in the Democratic Party to win the presidency while those who had battled him for the nomination were unsuccessful.
